The project is located in a recently-constructed complex, in a former industrial area of Milan converted to create new residential solutions featuring broad expanses of glazing. The job called for the renovation of a loft, with a redefinition and redistribution of the spaces. The ground floor features a large open space where the skillful interplay of the heights of the false ceilings punctuates and differentiates the various types of use. A slender wooden bookcase with open shelves of different dimensions flanks the immense dining table in solid wood. The continuing contrast between negative and positive space, elements in solid wood and metal, becomes the common thread for the kitchen décor. The upper floor is divided into two large master bedrooms with sleek, but elegant furnishings.

A space for getting a scrumptious bite to eat and drink while enjoying one of the area’s best views. Savory cuisine will be served in a chic environment that enhances a Milan landmark. The space will be adapted to meet the typical needs of both a dining establishment and a cultural gathering spot, maintaining a consistency and a compatibility with the project’s overall context. The concept behind the space’s design will be “innovative tastings,” namely theme evenings and wine and food tastings. A classy environment that will offer clients a range of options around the clock: breakfast, lunch, happy hour and evening get-togethers during which a range of quality products will be spotlighted. Particular emphasis will be placed on creating a space that is both comfortable and environmentally friendly. In fact, the full-length windows will be protected by sliding shutters made of wood laths set in a metallic frame. These “brise soleil,” as called in French, will shield the interior from the sun, which will keep the space at the perfect temperature and reduce energy costs. The counter will feature a series of separated refrigerated compartments. This will allow products to be divided according to category to avoid any risk of cross-contamination, which is particularly applicable for special menu items created for those who suffer from food allergies. The proposed triangular-shaped tables will pay homage to the “tramezzini,” the famous, triangular Italian sandwiches from which this establishment will take its name. The tables also will be well suited for a flexible, dynamic seating plan. Different configurations can be created for various sized groups and the particular time of day. A single table will be ideal for one person; two tables can be combined to seat two comfortably; multiple single tables can be put together to create a gigantic dining table that encourages socializing. The simple, geometrically shaped outdoor furnishings will add a natural touch to the overall project. Tables and chairs will dot lush, green zones, creating a relaxing environment for clients seeking to fully enjoy the Darsena, Milan’s recently revitalized ancient port.

This apartment is located in an elegant historic building, preserved in its typical Milanese style. Stylish and modern, it is decorated with designer furniture. The apartment consists of two bedrooms, a living room with open fully-equipped kitchen, one bathroom, and hardwood parquet floors.

Contemporary Dummy is a project devised by the creative flair of SGS Architetti Associati and by the skill in working the material of Vetreria Re. Luca Amendola and Gianluca Geroli, who have always had as their distinctive trait the contamination between fashion and design, and Dario Re, the owner of the namesake company, in business for over thirty years, have joined forces to give life to an idea which, more than a project has become a work of art. A life-size Dummy, Contemporary Dummy, in which are expressed a whole range of different production methods and types, of which the Vetreria Re is skilful interpreter, and the taste of the Studio SGS Architetti. The purity, aesthetic rigour and transparency of glass are exalted by the different decorations, including distinctive, such as the full-body tattoo. Contrasting materials – glass and polished aluminium for the joints. An object that comes to life, wearing clothes and accessories full of character. A yin yang in constant equilibrium out of which a modern hero is born, the vital centre of whom is highlighted by a red colour. The Dummy is made of 8 mm thick extra-clear glass; the single pieces have been cut with a waterjet machine on the basis of a dxf graphic file. After being water cut the single elements were hand-polished to obtain a ground but not sharp rib with a pleasant appearance. To give the dummy a three-dimensional effect, each shaped element (arm – leg – torso – head) was glued using special Uv glues. The glazed elements were assembled by means of 10 mm thick polished aluminium pads of different diameter which simulate the individual joints and give the object stability. For the tattoos, the sanding technique was used followed by decoration. Aesthetic research and a quest for stability in an object with a total weight of 30 kg – 25 of which glass and 5 steel/wood.
